    OUR ONLY HOPE

    OUR ONLY HOPE

Peace to you all in the Lord.

In these days we have seen oceanic crowds of young people who have generously responded to the invitation to live the Jubilee and manifest the only hope that unites us: the Lord Jesus Christ! How can we not remember the words of St. John Paul II, beloved Pope, who wisely stated: "He who is with the young, becomes young". In this Jubilee, it immediately strikes how an infinite number of young people, led by Pope Leo, can move from a 'lively' joy to the static and attractive silence of the Blessed Sacrament. A sacred moment, beautiful! In the sacred silence of a brief moment, the eternal God speaks! Similarly, looking at the enthusiasm of young people, the awareness and contagious joy of youth grow in us. Young people of different nationalities, even from countries that are currently in conflict. It is a tangible hope to be recognized and that could help us to perceive the strength that true hope exerts towards our humanity: the Risen One, Jesus Christ our Lord. He is our hope! This awareness should help us illuminate even the dark sides of our history, marked by conflicts and rivalries. Here in the Holy Land we look at the faces of the people, who are the living Stones, our Christians (and not only!), and we see the weeping and fear of the innocents, who are the real victims and who suffer the violence of hatred, and we feel called to be potters of evangelical charity towards those who really stare at us and ask for divine Hope, which perhaps they have lost.

In this garden the Lord enters into the silence of God being his Son! As the Son of God he asks us to be his closeness and consolation. Jesus, the only Shepherd of sheep, seems to enter alone into the abyss of human wound, but in reality He enters those who are prisoners of the wicked shepherd (cf. Ez 34,1ss), so that we can all stare at the only One who can save! When everything seems to disappear, we are called to hope! We want to announce it strongly, even in our silence: Christ is our "Anchor of salvation" (cf. Hebrew 6:19).
